The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown a very stark and harsh light onto everybody’s life. Especially impacted are the Asian communities, with racism-based violence against Asian communities rising. During this crisis, there is an opportunity for reflection on the pandemic: our responses and their weaknesses and strengths, and the pandemic’s impact and influence on Asian communities. Thus, we are calling you to voice your research, opinions, and thoughts through the following research proposals and personal essays.

PERSONAL ESSAYS

We welcome any experiences, stories, or speculations related to the pandemic’s impact on Asian communities in any form of media. Writing, audio, video, and others are all welcome. Possible prompts include but not limited to:

  1. Tell us about what your life looked like in quarantine/lockdown. How has your daily routine changed? How are you coping with the virtual experience? Your mental and physical health (eg. how are you staying motivated?)?

  2. Humans are social creatures. How have your social interactions changed since the pandemic? How have your social interactions with a physical presence changed since the pandemic (eg. Going to the grocery store)? How are you connecting with others (eg. going on a social distancing walk)?

  3. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected us both physically and socially. Are there any social aspects that you can speak to, specifically experiences related to discrimination and racism? These experiences can be your own, of those of your family and friends.

  4. At this time, no one knows for certain what the future holds. What are your speculations about the future? What are your worries regarding the pandemic and the future? How do you think this pandemic will affect your future (eg. virtual learning, jobs)?
